WHAT IS 'RAW MEDICINE'?
Tian Xian Liquid derives its effectiveness from the fact that
it uses raw medicines from medicinal herbs. Medicines can be categorized
based on whether they are manufactured from chemical synthesis or
derived from plants and animals. Raw medicine refers to medicaments
formed by drying or by simple processing of parts of natural products
such as plants, animals, and minerals for a medical purpose.
Plant and animal raw medicine such as radix ginseng and radix trichosanthis
are used in Tian Xian Liquid. The majority of raw medicine refers
to materials derived from particular structures of plants. Of course,
there are cases in which the whole plant is used for raw medicine,
but more often some particular part of the plant is used, such as
the leaves, flower, seeds, roots, stem, peel, or fruit. These raw
medicines do not necessarily bear the names of the plants from which
they are derived. After the process of refinement most of them are
given their own names. For instance, in the case of the materials
used for Tian Xian Liquid, Radix Glycyrrhizae is derived from the
licorice; Radix Ginseng is derived from the ginseng plant of the
slender acanthopanax family (edible ginseng is from the celery family.)
Radix trichosanthis is refined from the roots of the tang wu gua
plant, and Rhizoma Atractyloidis Macrocephalae is taken from the
stem and root of Rhizoma Atractyloidis.
In order to stimulate more research and development into the use
of raw medicines, the government of China Jilin province, and I
have set up the Tonghua Changbaishan Institute of Herbs.
